Quaint Byob in Bryn Mawr

September 27, 2017

Last week we were invited to spend a special evening at Sola Byob in Bryn Mawr & couldn’t wait to try it out. From the moment we made the reservation to the time we arrived at the door (beautiful exterior by the way…) we were talking about the menu, how close Bryn Mawr really is to center city & how it was great to get out of the city for a bit to enjoy an impromptu date night.

We pulled up, fed the meter (which if you are dining after 6, is free – we learned the hard way) and walked in to the sweet savory aroma. We were immediately seated & told the chef would be out to greet us shortly. In the meantime our bubbly was popped & served. Executive chef Scott Morozin popped out shortly after to introduce himself and check out what wines we’d brought to compliment dinner. After brief conversation, away her went and we jumped right into the special tasting menu which we left fully in chef’s hands.

Started with the amuse-bouche of salmon tartare with salmon roe & a basil leaf

First Course: Roasted Beet Salad with radish, blue cheese & walnut crumble with fennel vinaigrette

Second Course: Roasted Mushroom Soup with rosemary, crème fraische & potato

Third Course: Black Diamond Mussels in a saffron broth, grilled baguette, rouille & toasted seaweed

Forth Course: New Jersey Black Bass with soubise, ponzu & charred scallion

Fifth Course: Roasted  Mushroom Ravioli with Roasted Artichokes & Truffle

Sixth Course: Braised Pork Cheeks, cous cous, charred eggplant, dates & peach-jalapeno

Seventh Course: Creekstone Farms Striploin with white sweet potato, carrot, leek & foie gras sauce

 Cleansing Cucumber Sorbet

Housemade Baklava with spiced nuts & honey ice cream

Each dish was excellent and a few of our absolute favorites and recommendations for when you go and check it out are the mushroom soup, the mushroom ravioli, the braised pork cheeks & the housemade baklava!

It was a great evening out and while we had originally thought it would be a long drive out to Bryn Mawr, it really isn't! It took us about 20 minutes to get from our home in Graduate Hospital to the front door at Sola Byob, just as long as it would take us to walk to Center City! Although we didn't look, we're sure there has to be an option to hop on the train as well, or even an Uber/Lyft.

We're so happy we had the opportunity to enjoy the quaint & relaxing environment in Sola Byob, meet executive chef Scott Morozin & taste some amazing dishes!
