Living in Philadelphia, there are endless options for "travel" close to home & some...you don't even need to leave the city. This past weekend however, we celebrated Father's Day with my husband and his parents 'down the shore.' Most of the weekend my husband treated his dad to spectacular home cooked meals, but on Father's Day we went out to brunch in historic Cape May.
For those who have been before, you know that it is like stepping back in time as you stroll past the luxurious & well-maintained Victorian Homes which in most cases have been renovated into unique boutique hotels and B&B's. One of our favorite hidden gems is perfectly located on Washington Street which is off the beaten path, but still within walking distance of the famous Washington Mall. We found the Blue Rose Inn & Restaurant nearing the end of the summer season last September and could not wait to go back & what better way to kick off Father's Day Celebrations!
As you arrive, you are greeted by a HUGE wrap around porch, where if the weather is on your side, you can enjoy your meal. The table settings are simple but elegant with colbalt blue glassware, which we wanted to go home and immediately order! Brunch started with a pop of the bubbly before diving into the menu. Brunch is 3-courses so if you're like us and can't decide if brunch should be more breakfast or more lunch, this is the perfect place for you! Here's a bit of what we chose to indulge in for Father's Day...
Seared Steak Tartare: English Cucumber Salad, Toasted Brioche, Caramelized Shallots in a Cabernet Reduction
Croque Madame: Toasted Brioche, Duck Prosciutto, Sunny Side Egg, Mornay
Maple Bourbon Pancakes with White Balsamic Peaches to Top
Heirloom Sunchoke & Duck Confit Ravioli: Red Beet Puree, Sunchoke Chips, Toasted Pine Nuts, White Truffle Oil, Citrus Brown Butter
English Pea Rissoto: Cherrywood Bacon, Radishes, Watercress, Spearmint, Pecorino Froth topped with Truffle
Flan with White Balsamic Peaches & Fresh Cut Strawberries
Note, there was only one dessert shown...that's right, they all dove into their Cinnamon Coffee Cake before I could even catch a picture! So we definitely cannot wait to go back, to celebrate again soon!
And while we had a great Father's Day, I couldn't help but miss my dad who was off on vacation with my mom. I know they both enjoyed the holiday and we will celebrate with them soon! Our traditional Father's Day celebrations include kebobs on the grill & fresh summer veggies...can't wait to share that post with you soon!
